PDO Thread Lifts

Achieve a Younger Look Without Surgery

Looking for a way to achieve more youthful-looking skin without the need for complete facelift surgery? Consider a PDO thread lift procedure—a resurfacing treatment that not only improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but stimulates collagen production in the process.

What is a PDO Facelift?

A PDO thread facelift involves the use of temporary sutures to lift and tighten otherwise loose facial skin. Furthermore, the threads used to suture the skin during this procedure contain polydioxanone (PDO), which are FDA-approved and are designed to be safely absorbed by the skin within several months with no residual scar tissue.

Meanwhile, the PDO sutures that are used during this procedure stimulate a selective inflammatory response by the body, which in-turn increases collagen production in the areas of the face that need it most. Because of this, even as the sutures heal and become absorbed by the body, the results of a PDO thread lift can last for many months.

PDO THREAD LIFTS vs. SURGICAL FACELIFTS

Compared to a “traditional” surgical facelift, a PDO thread facelift is far less invasive and requires only local anesthesia. There is also practically zero recovery time for a PDO thread lift, whereas recovery from a surgical facelift can take a week or more. And because there’s no general anesthesia required for a PDO thread lift, most patients are able to drive themselves home (or even return to work) immediately following their appointment.

HOW DOES THE PDO THREAD LIFT WORK?

A PDO thread facelift procedure is relatively simple. First, the area(s) of the face to be treated are numbed with an anesthetic to ensure maximum comfort for the patient. From there, PDO threads are strategically placed under the skin to create the lifting effect that smooths out fine lines and sagging skin. Once the desired effect is achieved, the needle used to place the PDO threads is removed from the skin. Typically, the entire procedure takes no more than about 45 minutes in our Boca Raton office.

Recovery from a PDO thread facelift is generally smooth, with patients advised to take a mild painkiller (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen) if needed following the procedure. Many patients find that their discomfort is very minimal and do not need to take any painkillers at all. Some minor swelling immediately after the procedure is also common but typically subsides within a day or two.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A PDO THREAD LIFT?

PDO thread lifts are an excellent anti-aging solution for many people who don’t want to undergo a surgical facelift or may not medically qualify for one. Typically, the best candidates for PDO thread facelifts are those who are beginning to notice mild sagging and wrinkling around the cheeks, neck, and/or brow area. In some cases, a PDO thread lift may also be recommended to patients who have previously had full facelifts and are beginning to experience a minor relapse.

WHAT KINDS OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

The results of a PDO thread facelift are immediate; as soon as the procedure is completed in-office, you’ll be able to enjoy the appearance of smoother skin with less sagging and fewer wrinkles. Over time, many patients find that their results improve even further as the PDO sutures begin to absorb into the skin and stimulate additional collagen production. In most cases, the results of a PDO thread facelift last for several months—and having additional PDO sutures placed can “refresh” your results as the need arises. Because there is no scarring or other long-term side effects, many patients go on to have PDO thread facelifts repeated several times.
